Jeff Ward as a first year 16 year old rookie pro.  He was stylish fast and tiny looking.  You can see why he was known as the "Flyin' Freckle".  Not too many people remember he got his start with FMF on a Suzuki.

A new crop of riders were moving up from the minicycling ranks. This included Brian Myerscough who ended up third in the 125 class that season. Ward was another famous minicycle racer.

Mark Barnett won the 125 overall this day in Nebraska

Steve Wise would go on to crossover fame by winning the ABC TV Superbikers. This was an early version of Supermoto racing. Wise became a successful Honda Road Racer.

Two future stars of motocross, Danny Chandler and Mark Barnett are fighting for position.
