Factory Suzuki 125 77 LaPorte Agency CMX.jpg

Danny LaPorte

Hannah's Yamaha pits.  You can see the famous Hannah speed bag with "Hannah Banana" hand written above it.  Bob chats with some locals while Keith McCarty's girlfriend cleans his bike.

Danny LaPorte was riding well but would not win the 125 Championship in '77.  In '82 he would become the first U.S. 250cc World Champion the week after Brad Lackey won the title in the 500cc class.

Magoo in the rollers 77CMX.jpg

This was my first chance to see Danny Chandler ride in person and he was fun to watch.  In this section he was the only one doubling a jump and landing at high speed in the middle of a series of rollers.

Weinert 77 Agency jump.jpg

Seeing Jammin Jimmy Weinert race a 125 would be kind of like seeing Kevin Windham ride a 250F today. He seemed too experienced to be riding in this class but I guess it goes to show how important the 125 class had become to the manufacturers.
